This silver coin
was issued during the reign of Johann II, Prince of Liechtenstein, one of
Europe’s longest-ruling monarchs.
Physical Characteristics
Struck in .835 fine silver, the coin weighs 10 grams and measures 27
millimeters in diameter, with a thickness of 2.0 millimeters. It is round in
shape and produced using a milled striking technique.
Obverse
The obverse bears a left-facing portrait of Johann II, Prince of Liechtenstein.
The surrounding inscription identifies the ruler:
JOHANN II FÜRST
VON LIECHTENSTEIN
(“Johann II, Prince of Liechtenstein”)
The portrait was engraved by Gustave Deloye.
Reverse
The reverse displays the national coat of arms of Liechtenstein at the center,
flanked by two decorative branches. The denomination appears above the left
branch, while the abbreviation KR· appears above the right. The date 1912 is
placed below.
The design was engraved by Gustave Deloye.
Edge
The edge is smooth and bears an incuse inscription reading:
KLAR UND FEST
(“Clear and firm”), a motto reflecting stability and integrity.
Monetary History
The coin was demonetized on 28 August 1920.
